In the spring of 2007, Researchers installed 50 motion sensitive cameras just off the trail to avoid hikers setting off the cameras. Their interest was to document some 600 miles of the AT in the states closest to Washington DC. Of the 1900 some pictures, the most was Whitetail Deer, and other animals such as Bobcat, Flying Squirrel, Weasel, Ponies, and Black Bears. The Bears were attracted by placing scents near the cameras. Some of those pictures were of the bears rear as they rubbed themselves on the very same trees the camera's were attached to. Some hikers were photographed in the same pose - as they were taking a picture of the motion camera. Please take a moment a look at the original article. This synopsis is posted in case the link is broken.
