my wife is claustophobic and a mummy bag just doesn't work for her. does anyone know of a 15-20 degree bag thats wider than usual. i've been looking on the internet with not much luck and asking around the local outfitter and no one can help there either. i'm not sure one exists but i'm sure someone on here will know if it does. i've been trying to get her to realize she may not have much choice. so maybe she'll give in. anyways thanks in advance for any help.

This one is close, FF rates it at 25 but their ratings are basically for cold sleepers. I have the 35 rated Wren and I've slept down to nearly 25 with in comfort. This bag has a larger foot section than a mummy, but it isn't as wide as a rectangular bag, and it works as a wearable bag. You can also boost the rating a bit by ordering the bag overstuffed a few ounces.

See if something like that might work for you. Hope I was able to help.

yes i do! but it may be too late.
i bought a kelty lightyear 20 degree rectangular down bag. it was only sold at cabella. now i dont see it listed now. if i were you i would call kelty and ask them about it. its a great bag.
Check out www.campmor.com (http://www.campmor.com) in the 'retangular' or 'tapered' sleeping bag section. They have quite a few listed.
Pricey, but worth it... Montbell super stretch huggers. The #1 is rated at 15*
I too cant stand being in a mummy bag! Just about lose my mind trying to sleep in one!

REI has some that are wider in the shoulder area than most mummies.

Jacks R Better quilts (http://www.jacksrbetter.com/index_files/Quilt%20Comparison.htm) - my personal suggestion for your wife would be the Rocky mountain No Sniveller (http://www.jacksrbetter.com/index_files/RMS.htm) because women tend to sleep colder and get cold in camp easier. This solves both problems. The quality of JRB products and the customer service is fantastic.

I have the same problem. I carry a LL Bean down 20-degree rectangular bag. I usually use it as a quilt. When Pat and I hike together we only carry one sleeping bag. She bought some rip stop nylon the same size as the bag and sewed a matching zipper on it. The nylon goes under us with the bag over us. We put our thermarests inside our bedding. I won't name any names but somebody cocoons when she sleeps so it is the only way I can keep the sleeping bag over me. It also holds the thermarests in place. You can see the tarp/sleeping bag arrangement in the pictures on the site below my signature.

I have the perfect sleeping bag for you’sguys. I have a problem with being claustrophobic also. I bought a Big Agnes lost ranger long. I am 5 10 and 215 and have plenty of room to role over in the bag. It is 3 lbs. It also has a built in pocket in the back for you to slip your pad into. You will never role off the pad. If you spend time in a hammock, it will fix the loft compression issue also.
Do your wife a great favor and try out the Montbell Super Stretch Downhugger #1 before buying anything. Cuffs is right about how comfy they are.

North Face has a 20* rectangular bag. The 40* is called the Allegheny, but I can't remember the name of the 20* one - check campmor.com.

I just bought one ... you have to buy the pad ... and i guess they're heavy and everyone on here will be on my s for suggesting them ,but you asked ... I am huge to make and understatement and I can fit in one. Go for the Whiskey Park model and I think they have a model specifically for women. They're expensive to, I guess, but I got a 0 degree ... I don't care .... You can't sleep when cold or cold and wet. I bought mine from campsaver.com, not from big agnes, but do your research at bigagnes.com.
