Have you had any experience with the Integral Designs Silponcho? If so do you think a 5' kid could wear it and hike with it reasonably?

I've had a long battle with rain gear and a couple of years ago, I just gave up on it. The ID silponcho is one thing I tried.

It flaps in the wind in a big way, and I didn't care for that. When it's snapped up to be shorter, it can catch wind, and you get wind driven rain under it.

As a shelter, it's very tight, but I assume you're just talking about rain wear.

YMMV. I don't think anything really keeps you dry on the AT, so take what I say with a grain of salt -- I'm sure others will argue my assertation. :)

I'm 5'1" and I've used it to cover me and my pack. The front can be too long so I would tuck it into my belt to keep from tripping on it.

If I had me and the pack in it, it wouldn't flap too much.

In heavy downpours, it keeps your stuff dry and although you get wet, the poncho keeps you from getting hypothermic.
