We have been issued some major weather advisories for Western NC. All the NC/TN bordering counties including some other mountain counties in Western NC are under a Winter Storm Warning. High winds with snow fall and extreme cold air are in the forecast. It is expected to be 0 to -10 degrees with wind. Snowfall is expected to be 5 to 7 inches in some of the higher elevations.

Thought I'd put the word out to those who might be heading our way. Sounds like a white New Year. :)

I was just on Flattop, and back home in Johnson City; been pretty clear all day. Actually pretty warm in the lowers, and bit cool in the higher elevations. But I did see the cold front coming, its sitting on the edge of the Cumberland Plateau as of New Years.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I heard the news last night. Hhmmm....sounds like a good night for the tent and bag. Backyard camping...my favorite.:)

The Dino's bionic leg has spoken - it hurts like <bleep, bleep, bleep> - it's gonna snow tonight in the mountains. The leg is rarely wrong.

Ok, gotta trust the bionic leg on this one :)

'Rarely Wrong' would make a good trail name for somebody out there, so would 'Bionic Leg', wait, I think I have those albums from the 80's :)

It is snowly lightly here as well. My son is enroute from Indiana and says the IN/KY border is getting heavy snow. Looks to be heading for WV on the radar. Anything outside, Blissful?

Only got a light dusting here on the out skirts of Johnson City.

But as of midnight, in early morning of Jan 2nd, Holston Mountain is in single digits, windchill is -10.

And I wanted to move away from Iowa because of the cold.

I'm in Sylva, NC...about 30 minutes from NOC and at 4:40am the snow is coming down, piling up and the wind is blowing hard.
:-? I wonder if Tipi Walter is up on the Bob tonight.
Springer Mountain last night wasn't too bad, clear skies, lots of stars and a little wind. Today was colder than last night and the wind had picked up.
It didn't start snowing on my drive home until Franklin.

No, SpiritWind, I was NOT on the Bob last night but god-willing I'll be up there very soon.:banana Getting my gear squared as we speak, etc.

Last night I was camped down on Chickasaw Creek in my big Cabelas 12x12 outfitter tent. It was cold this morning, around what? 15 degrees? Not too bad and no real snow.

Ya miss it, don't ya - REAL winter. :-?

We had 10" more yesterday. Had to get plowed out for the 6th time already this winter. I've got 4 to 5 foot high plow wash lining my driveway and half of what was there two weeks ago melted! The really good news for outdoor activities though is it hasn't been bitterly cold yet. Best early season skiing, shoeshoeing, winter camping in many, many years. Now if I could only get out and actually do some of that:mad: it would be a GREAT winter. :::sigh:::
