Just wondering who was starting in April...I'm starting mid-April. Looking forward to meeting you on the trail!
Right behind you in early May, not a thru though.

All you people starting in April you are mad, I tells ya. It can still get mighty cold down there. Best to start late May. Watch as the fun people filter back to you the whole way to K. By the time the cold hits up north you'll be so strong you could carry a water heater if you needed to.

I just can't wait! Although a lot of my family is slightly concern with the recent events in the news. I've tried to explain to them that there are plenty of thru hikers out there and the thru hiker community watches out for one another. So, hopefully by the time April comes around, my family will feel more comfortable. We'll see.
You will be just fine starting in April. Yah, it will still be cold on the top of the ridge at night but the days will warm up fine. In April of 01 I had days in the low 70s and nights as low as 8 degrees.
As far as fear. You will find a lot of hikers on the trail that time of year. You will have no problem with finding some to hike and camp with.

Leaving around 8-10 April, possibly mid-April. See you on the trail.
Starting in April for a month section. Not sure exactly, but sometime in the first week or two. I gotta survive the bus ride from Des Moines to Atlanta...then I'll see ya on the trail...:)

My first year (04) I started on 4-20 and met agreat group of folks, a little behind the pack, and I had to hitch to trail daze. This year I'll be starting my full through hike with a couple of good friends Feral AT '03 PCT '07 and Green T PCT '07. Some where between april 1-8th. Those who start then should be careful not to get caught up in the whirlwind and get swept away. Beware the Merry Hikesters.

still trying to decide. will either hike the approach or do the FSR .9 miles from Springer. Depends on what my folks feel like doing...if they want to get in on the adventure a bit or if they just want to drop and run!

Leave Friday for Greensboro then Asheville on Saturday. Sunday Ill be in the woods. Hey by the way, Little Bear and Honeysuckle are 2 awesome people. They drove up here to pick up my food drop for the Smokies first time through. Wow, trail magic already. You guys Rock!!!!

Wahey i have my Visa! It came yesterday and all it took was 4 hours in the US embassy in London. I didn't get asked much about the trip though just when i had first thought of doing it and it i have a home in the UK to return to. But anyway who cares?
I should be flying out on the 14th April and after buying a great deal of my gear at Neels Gap i'll be heading out to join you guys - can't bloody wait!

I'll be leaving the 3rd on the approach. Could be a wet beginning, especially for the April Firsts. There is rain in the Suches, GA forecast from April 1-4.
I am not thru-hiking. I will be doing Springer to Fontana and in Fontana I will meet my husband, Gungho, and we will go to Newfound Gap. I am so excited and can't wait to see you guys on the trail the 1st. :)

KJ, right now its the morning of the 5th. That said my brother in law is involved so it could be the 6th. I am however confident that we will only be a little ahead of you and that that will diminish within the first day or two.Certainly look forward to meeting you.
I was in your neck of the woods recently. I have a daughter at nas brunswick (husband usn) and one in freeport!!!! small world
