A few days ago I seen a post regarding someone removing their straps and putting on a lighter set from another headlamp. I was just wondering if this is possible with the Zipka. I have a Tikka XP but would really like to get the Zipka straps on their if possible. Has anyone done this before? If so, how hard was it? Is it something that I could easily mess up and destroy my new $50 dollar headlamp? Weight savings? Any help is appreciated. I already removed the regular AAA batteries and put in Energizer Lithium E2's and got it down to 2.8oz's. It would be nice to get it a little lower. Thanks.

I came up with the really bright idea to call Pretzl  ....

1) It will void the warranty of the light, even if you just modify the straps. Just letting people know this because I didnt think that it would.

2) The XP is not compatible with any other straps. It can be done but it will require hot glue, etc.

The mods can delete this thread if they would like.

Those lithiums could fry your led's. Petzl post a warning against using them on there website with this particular light!

Hm....... never seen that. Right in the manual under batteries it says that you can use lithium batteries for lighter weight and for better use in cold weather. I guess I will give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks for the warning.

Why not take a pair of scissors and cut the middle portion out of the strap, then take a soldering iron and seal the cut edges? This would take off a lot of weight and still keep the factory look.

I had thought about doing that but I didnt want to have to deal with frayed edges, etc. But the soldering idea is a good one. I will definetly look into that. Thanks!

Looking at mine, it would be easier to just:

- cut the original strap off.
- Buy a thinner elastic strap from Walmart, get a "adjuster" for it
- Attach the new strap to the headlamp.

Easiest way to do it and it wont look all chopped up.

That would be awesome. I definetly do not want it to look all chopped up and stuff though.
