We are leaving in April from Newfound Gap and not stopping until Springer. It's our first long AT trip. Any advice?

If you don't have any long distance hiking experience, then read the articles on the homepage. The hike you're planning is no different than a thru-hike -
just a little shorter, but you still need to plan in the same way.

We've got plenty of experience. This is just the longest hike that we've done. I am looking more for advice on must-sees, stops, ect.?

There a plenty of must see's on this hike! First is the "Fontana Hilton". The most comfortable shelter on the trail.
Be ready for some work- these are some of the steepest hills in the south!

What about the weather? Should I plan for a bit of everything?

Definitely. You could get anything from a snowstorm to a 90+ degree day. Maybe both.

Views from Cheoah, Wesser, Wayah Balds; Albert + Standing Indian, Blood Mtn, Tray Mtn.You may want a tarp as the shelters will be crawling with NOBO's. Find some non shelter locations to pitch the tarp or sleep under stars b/c of above reason. Daytime temps 50-60's, night 30-40's, though there are extremes. My favorite section there is Standing Indian; from Wallace to Bly Gaps. Two big climbs out of Fontana and NOC. Oh yeah, fill your canteen at Chatahoochee Springs then take a leak; you can say you pissed on Atlanta!

Thanks Doc! I never did like Atlanta much anyway.
