I'm debating buying a set of 2004 AT maps. Would they be very outdated?

No. Not at all. They'll work fine

TN/NC and NY/NJ are newer than 2004. Check this thread (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26714) out, and open the excel spreadsheet (if you can).

See you on the trail,

they'll be fine.

we hiked the trail without maps, and used a 4 year old handbook.

I had older maps I didn't notice too much of a problem. The newer reroutes won't be there, but they were not hard to follow.

With as much rerouting that Bob Peoples does through the TN section I don't think any map would be completly accurate.

When you purchase the AT map bundle from ATC the maps are of different revision dates (As illustrated in Mountain Squids Link). I bought mine in 2006, some were prior to 2004 and some after.
Are you saying you're buying someones map set that they purchased in 2004 or are all the maps dated 2004? In either case it should be alright, just curious.

John,
I was bidding on ebay for a set of maps and guidebooks that the seller bought in 2004. Lost the bidding war. I think I'm just going to suck it up and buy the set new. Thanks for the input guys. :D
