It's about ten days to Winding Stair Gap (Rt. 64/Franklin).

You can also get to Murphy by driving thru Hiawassee (The crossing is Rt. 76 at a place called Dick's Creek Gap); most people make Hiawassee around 6-7 days after leaving Springer.

I went form Bly Gap NC to springer in 5 very hard days this fall. I would not do it that way again. 6-7 seems about right
