What is your luxury item? I saw one of my friends on a backpacking trip carrying a full size pillow. He said is was so nice sleeping at night because it gave him better support on his neck. He was right. I have tried all differnt backpacking pillows that are small or lighter but none has done such a good job as the down full size pillow I bring now. I even carried it on the A.T. with me. It was great.

It was my Nikon N80 with 600mm zoomlens. Learned alot since then. Mailed it home in Monson - haven't had a luxury item since. (maybe my toenail clippers).

I carried a pair of wind pants all the way. Why...I have no idea. I didn't wear them in the rain, wind, cold. The only time I wore them was when I summited katahdin and I didn't need them then either. The other hikers who went through my pack to help me identify un-needed stuff all agreed that I should have them...but I never did need them.

My luxury item is a two cup coffee perculator, with "real" coffee and creamer.
I only use it once a day, but to me the weight is worth it! Gotta have fresh brewed coffee to start my day!

Little Lexan pepper grinder. Just because you're dining in the outback doesn't mean you can't be civilized. Besides, this little thing is really great. When not hiking, it spends its time in my kitchen filled with various specialty peppercorns.

A cheap Wally World net hammock with the spreader bars removed. Wonderful place to sit, relax, take a nap, and hold gear off the ground. Rolls up to baseball size.

I carried a book with me in the wilderness. It was nice to take a 2 hour break and read for a little while.

A book also, like Kirby. I always bring a book, especially in winter.

Two paperbacks on last week's trip. And a combo MP3 / FM radio. I was listening to the BBC at night when I couldn't sleep.

My MP3 player!! It's like rocket fuel in my ears.
Oh, and sometimes a mini-book if my food bag is little!
Oh, and my bag of m&ms! Can't go anywhere without those little guys!
Ok, that was 3 items but so what if I can carry it!!!

My Palm Pilot, it’s got an MP3 player (2000-min of songs on 1 card) , an e-book program (I have over 200 books I have downloaded on to a card) and lots of games. I can write notes, use it as an alarm clock (I use it for this every day) I can copy ant text to a file and read it any time I want. lots of other programs on the net that I can download to it for free. It’s something I use every day.
