Express bus from Boston or Portland (change in Bangor), taxi to Millinocket, and then hitch.

I have heard that there is a trail through the woods that will get you there?

Fly into Portland, bus to Medway, Shuttle via AT Lodge. They offer a thru-hiker special: shuttle from Medway, night in the lodge, breakfast at the AT Cafe and shuttle to Baxter State Park.

Plane into Portland is cheapest, at least from the south, then get to Bangor and take the bus to Medway, etc. etc.

Just flew up from Greensboro, NC to Portsmouth, NH just south of the Maine border near I-95 on Skybus for only $10 one way!
www.skybus.com (http://www.skybus.com)

If I was starting a SOBO, I would get a cheap flight on Skybus to Portsmouth and hitch up to Baxter State Park.

Skybus is a really good deal. I'm now trying to visit friends in Boston on the way up to Maine. Greensboro - Boston flight is only $40!

Peaks, can you give some more info on this "express bus?" Is it with Greyhound? Thanks!

For the right price, I can arrange it so that you can parachute onto the summit...although that's not how I got there. :D

i'm also interested if 2 or 3 sobo'ers would like to go together to rent a car up from the south.

Plane into Portland is cheapest, at least from the south, then get to Bangor and take the bus to Medway, etc. etc.Sometimes the flight to Bangor is the same price or just a little more, but that Skybus fair is excellent if it meets one's needs.
