Hiking with Fido

Hey folks
I'm headed sobo with my pooch this june. i already know about his non-allowance in baxter st.park and the smokies and the blue-blazed route in...ny? but didn't know if anyone had any other tips or suggestions. he was raised and actually trained on day-hikes and has since gone on a few backpacking/camping trips; however, nothing of near this length. any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
