Does Jester have a on-line journal or a way to see his where abouts, mail drops, if anyone knows could you share it ?

When is he leaving or did he already leave?

One generally can't leave Mexico until mid-April, though this may shape up to be a high snow year, so closer to May in that case. Unless he's got some sort of scheme up his sleeve.

He is planning the PCT so he is keeping track of snowfall, etc... Here is an entry from Cuppajoe's journal:

"I will be starting on the 19th. Several others are starting a couple days earlier and others are starting a week later. Funny thing is I know we will all meet up somewhere along the way. There is a thing called the Sierras that kinda equals out the, “how fast do I hike equation” and right now the optimal entry date into the Sierras is June 8. This info is based on current snowfall conditions. I have a mental goal set that I want to hit Kennedy Meadows, the Sierra entry site around June 10."

I too would like to wish Jester good luck, if only to make this thread longer.

Does Jester have a on-line journal or a way to see his where abouts, mail drops, if anyone knows could you share it ?

I will let everyone know this info as it gets closer to my start, as that's usually when I get more self-absorbed (and my normally high level of delusions of grandeur skyrockets, and I start to believe that everyone should be as interested in me as I am).

. . .Unless he's got some sort of scheme up his sleeve.

Off-trail I usually keep a scheme up my sleeve. When I'm hiking I keep it down my pants (to prevent chafing).

But worry not -- I'm still East-coasty for a bit. See some of you jokers at the Warmer. . .

sometimes i use my jesters voice. its a cheap imitation of you. i dont do it around you cause its not cool. my jesters voice only comes on when im giving instructions or decriptions of the trail. like,.. if im telling someone not to sleep at bake oven knob shelter but to walk on. im thinking in my jesters thaught voice right now . im gonna go walk around town with my jesters walk and ciggerett carry. to the bookstore. where ill prolly use my jesters look while browsing. the look that screams ,...well yall know it. i got some jester flakes on my gear if anything happenes we can clone him back later. meanwhile, can i have your costumes if you dont come back? and who gets your share of the desserts?
note :jesters mom, you will attend all events in the kings absence.

Don't know but the Sierra entry date is June 14-18 according to Postholer and the PCT databook formula.

That's OK, the PCT needs to get a sense of humor.:D

I was at the same kick off (07) and was bored stiff. Too stuffy, no sense of humor, WAY TOO SERIOUS for thru hiking. I would go back to see friends but I would NEVER miss Trail Days for it.:-?

Yeah they are totally different, suppose it's depends on the person and what they're looking for. I didn't have a blast myself, but I was tired, anxious and a bit concerned about the desert ahead. Plus I didn't know anyone.

The dynamics are quite different. At Traildays, most of the AT hikers are a month or two into their hikes. They have lots of friends, they're comfortable in their abilities and have gained major confidence, so it's a time to let loose.

The PCT hiker is just starting and has at most a week of hiking under their belt, but probably more like a day. Rather than drinking a 12 pack they're concerned about the 5 am wake up the next day to get going on the desert heat and the 16 mile waterless stretch.

I liked the KO simply because it was much smaller, more intimate, had a much greater ratio of informational sessions to partying than TD's and wasn't a crazy zoo.

I suspect I'll enjoy it much more THIS year as a non-hiker with the chance to reunite with the class of 07'. No worrying about miles, water caches, etc. :)

I had a great time at TD's in 04' but I'm not sure I'd ever really wanna go back.

Annnnd back to Jester.:)

Yeah, since I'm starting a little early I'll have to take at least 10 zeros before or at KM. 4 at the KO, one in Idyllwild, Big Bear, Wrightwood, the Saufley's or Anderson's (if they're open), and Tehachapi leaves a couple for KM.

Know what you mean. I really enjoyed the lecture about mountain lions but the rest just seemed as though it didn't apply to me. I came back to the KO from Paradise Corners and listened to the water report with great concern but when they got to where I was on the trail, they stopped and said it didn't matter because things would change by the time the "herd" got there...didn't help me at all.
Also, 4 of us were sitting at the picnic table in our campsite QUIETLY talking about friends, the lectures and the day. At 11pm on the nose we were told by others to stop talking because it is now quiet hours. We weren't even talking loudly, just above a whisper because of how quiet it was....this pissed me of a little but then a WHOLE BUNCH when the organizers had that a$$hole begin to play the bagpipe at 5am.
As I was growing up you would always hear that California is so trendy and far ahead of the rest of the country...well California doesn't have a clue! Those people need to get a life!:sun

I want to wish Jester the absolute worst of luck. The WORST of luck........

No water and lots 20 foot long rattlesnakes in the 700 miles of desert. Meth'ed out crazies for all of his hitches in CA. Nine zillion feet of snow in the Sierras. Locusts and angry panda bears thru Nor CA. A drum circle surrounding the trail all the way thru Oregon (No, really... pasty guys with dreads, shoulder to shoulder, along both sides of the trail from the CA border to the WA border, slapping at drums or gourds or 5 gallon buckets, every sixth or seventh guy asking Jester if he can spare a smoke). Rain in WA which floods his campsite and washes away all of his fun but useless crap and only leaves him with the gear that he needs to survive - just barely. And then finally, a royally pissed off Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer and the horse he rode in on demanding to see "Mr. Shane O'Donnell's passport, birth certificate, PCT permit, "permit to enter Canada at a non-entry point", and maybe even his CA Camp Fire Permit", before Jester could walk across the border and into Canada.

Why do I wish this on my dear friend Jester???

The story at the Gathering will be that much funnier.

So Jester...Have fun no even if the luck gets bad.

The KO is my favorite hiker gathering. Chilled, laid back and fun. I did enjoy he KO more as an alumni than as a person currently hiking the trail.
