It is my understanding that the area around Little Wilson Falls used to be a quarrying town (maybe named Wilson?) but was deserted in the 1800's, like so many towns in New England.

Does anyone know:

1) If the "stone staircase" that comes down to Little Wilson Stream from the falls was built by the townspeople, or later by the CCC or other trail building group, and

2) Are there any remnants of the old town around?

You might find this interesting. This settlement is not listed in Ghost towns of Maine. It came and went........

Little Wilson Falls is something special, I spent at least an hour sitting there in amazement.

The most perfect camping area is right after you cross the stream going Northbound.

I am still curious about who built the staircase-- it looks like it took an incredible amount of work.
