That don't count.

General Beau Lee, the Atlanta groundhog, didn't see his shadow so Spring is just around the corner.

And Atlanta is a lot closer to Springer than PA is!

I didn't see any groundhogs yesterday. Had groundhogs come out of their burrows here, they would have seen their shadows.

In The Green Diamond, groundhogs can't be bothered to get out of bed for such silly human traditions. I did get an automatically generated e-mail from my favorite weather prognosticator a few days ago who suggested I post a link to last year's thread (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21276).

He said since hikers grow too soon old and too late smart, some might once learn something by reading all that good Pennsylvania German stuff.;)

Groundhog Day?

Maybe not. In an untimely turn of events, Punxsutawney Phil (http://www.groundhog.org/info/feb2.shtml) has been struck and killed by a passing motorist, as he was preparing for his annual forecast.

Anyone with information regarding the identity and/or whereabouts of this individual, who is wanted for questioning regarding the incident, is asked to contact the Punxsutawney authorities. He was last seen speeding away on a red, late model Harley-Davidson, reportedly with a PA license plate.

Meteorologists worldwide are stunned, shocked and dismayed.

One thing is fairly certain, however; the first day of Spring will occur in roughly 7 weeks.

This reporter would like to assist in the manhunt, but needs to wash his motorcycle...

I'm surprised that they found the body. Don't we have certain, ah..."brothers-in-arms"...who find such tragedies, um...somewhat...delicious?:eek:

We do indeed. Aren't sausage and scrapple made from ground hog, after all? :D

It's gonna be another month before Bigelow Phil will be able to gnaw its way through several layers of crusty snow in hopes of seeing daylight even.
Does this mean possibly 12 more weeks of winter here?

Could be, but can summer sausage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_sausage) be made in winter and were you thinking mammal or motorcycle?

From your very own link: "In spite of its name, summer sausage actually tends to be made in the autumn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autumn), during traditional hunting (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunting) seasons in North America (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America) and Europe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe)."

I'd say, based on that, that it could also be made in Winter...yes. :D

Oh, and mammal, definitely...

Goundhogs are tasty.

This is gross.
And we're having chicken nuggets for Superbowl. And everything tastes like chicken. Now I'll have visions of groundhog.

Heck, I've been waiting for this day for 12 years. I could care less about what a groundhog has to say about the weather. The weatherman can't get it right after years of learning in college and years of on the job training.

I'm more concerned with little water or lack there of.
