Info on this trail is hard to find. My wife and I went to bass river and tried to find the official start of the trail, but we could not. We found the general area where it starts. We talked to a ranger and she said there were 2 pink trails, the batona and a very small loop trail and someone connected the two with pink blazes, which they were not suposed to do. Do you know exactly where it starts? What map are you using? Where are you getting water from?

i've done dayhikes on the batona with my wife and kids but have always wanted to do the whole thing in one shot, so i may just take you up on your offer and tag along. chances are that i would continue on past rt. 563, stealth camp somewhere in brendon t. byrne SF sunday night, then finish up in ong's hat monday afternoon. rain or shine (or even snow) sounds good to me.

I hiked the Batona in September, the northern sections were a bit rough and the first 2-3 miles starting in Bass River are street hiking. The camping sites are located at wierd intervals I ended up stealthing twice.

i have a filter. carry 3 litters. bass river has water, harrisonville lake filter, batsto has water, at lower forge the Batsto river is very clean, Batona camp has a pump. one of the roads you cross-cross for miles is called GOOD WATER Rd.:)

kark thanks for the map. If i remember correctly I thought the ranger said it started about a 1/2 ile past the wooden bridge in a parking lot. Maybe the lady did not now what she was talking about. Seems like they should mark it with a sign. thanks for the info on water as well. That is very helpful.

i postponed my batona hike also. in the meantime, i have been asked to be part of a backpacking trip slated for this coming week, destination unknown as yet. when i was asked for trail suggestions, i recommended the batona, so there's a chance 3-5 of us will be out there sometime between sunday march 2 and friday the 7th.

in regard to maps, i found this one and enlarged it, printed out six full-page sections, then taped them together to make one large map with decent detail and perspective. hope it helps.
