Well, my time has come. These are going to be a hectic couple of weeks coming up, and I'm not sure if I will have another opportunity after this weekend to thank everyone for the valuable information for my thru hike this year, so thank you everyone. If I can, I will certainly try to get on before I leave.

Here are my ETA for landmark points along the trail:
Damascus: April 10th-April 20th
Harper's Ferry: May 15th-25th
Katahdin: August 10th-20th

If you would like to contact me, please feel free to email me, as that is my first priority when I get a chance to go on the computer.

Thanks again everyone, and I'll see you on the trail.

BEST of Luck Kirby! Remember, AYCE's are your friend!!!! And don't be afraid of shelters. You can always tent near one if you're worried about snorers or mice, but you experience a lot of great things there with your friends as well.

Have a great hike kid. I'll be a few days behind you. Take it S-L-O-W, it isn't a race. Listen to Footslogger. Some good advice.

Remember, shelters, tentsites, and hammocking trees for that matter never close. You'll get there.

The only tears I want to see are when the Dolphins kick ass on the Pats this season!

Hike on!

Get it done. The two best pieces of advice I got last summer:

1. There is no luck, good or bad. You make your own future.
2. Be a punching bag; no matter how bad the trail sucker-punches you, just bounce right back!

Have a great time.

You make your own future.

Kirby, your hike is your responsibility and it will be what you make of it. Make it something that will be pleasing to you as you hike it and in the years ahead when you look back upon it. No regrets!

Thank you everyone for the support, it's nice to know I won't be completely alone out there in the big bad woods of Appalachia.

I will be sure to track down all the WB locals as I come to their towns (Wolf, Terry7, TOW, Wonder, and CaseyB in Damascus, Jack in Hanover, etc.).

L.Wolf:
I'll keep you posted as to whether I need a shuttle to Marion, VA to catch a bus to meet my school mates, I'll look for your hell raising on WB when I get closer to make sure your still around.

I am planning a 5-6 month thru hike, nothing faster, nothing slower(need to be back in time for school).

Thanks again everyone, I look forward to seeing all of you on the trail, what ever that means for you.

Take care,
Kirby

Good luck to you our young friend. You seem very mature for your age and have a "center" about you. A refreshing change to see in a kid these days.

If you have no objections, I would like to offer the label, Puppy, as your trail name. Pup for short. Not as a slight of your age but rather a reflection of your unbridled enthusiasim and your willingness to sink your teeth into your thru hike.

The idea behind the time table is a 5-6 month thru, those were purely guesses, especially the Harper's ferry and Katahdin one.

Once again, thanks,

And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Hey Kirby,
I also started March 1, and I feel sure you guys will walk faster than me. However, here's where I was at the start of most months:

Lots of significant times happened the first few days of the month.

I hobbled into Hot Springs April 2 (after five days off the trail for business).

May 1, I in southern virginia, I wrote: "Well, it's been two months on Trail so far, starting my third month. I've done one fourth the trail in one third the time allotted. Ha! Actually, that's not strictly true - I've given myself as much time as necessary to finish. But half a year sounds so huge, and seven months, luxurious."

(Be sure you get off the trail for Trail Days - you'll kick yourself if you don't, and you'll be a star attraction.NO worries getting rides there and back)

Rolled into Harper's Ferry June 2 -maybe I'll upload the picture.

July 3, I walked into Connecticut.

August 1, the start of my sixth month on the Trail, I was at Vermont's famous Inn at Long Trail. Three weeks later, I was in Wisconsin, getting my brother married off.

September 1, six full months of hiking, I was schlepping through spectacular southern Maine, with less that 200 miles to go.
September 18 was my summit date, as fine a day to climb The Mountain as there ever was.

I hope your hike impacts you as much as mine has. It was...GREAT!
:banana
Hope to see you pass through Amicalola March 1; Gene Espy, the oldest living thru-hiker, will also be there.
But if you miss the connection, I'll be following along.

Hope it makes you smile in your gut.
