I know nothing about this area -- will a 20 Degree bag be okay?? Anything else I should know? What is the terrain like?
Hopefully the ponies will have some foals by then. :)

I think we're starting in Damascus actually. Does that change anything? I've been promised ponies. But I'm a Mainer and my geography skills are worse than Christopher Columbus' blind dog's.

Thanks Lone - if I don't see any, you'll give me my money back, right? ;)

2 other points about this stretch:

1. Don't know if you're a shelter person. Chestnut Knob Shelter looks nice from the outside and sits in a picturesque setting in an open field where you'll see both sunrise and sunset but I wouldn't stay in it unless you want to share your food and boots with hordes of mice.

2. A few miles after Jenkins Shelter, the AT descends to Little Wolf Creek which it crosses about a dozen times. You may want to take the blue-blaze alternative if there's been a lot of rain.

You're hiking this stretch at a nice time of year; you'll see some signs of spring (flowers etc.) but you'll still enjoy views because the leaves won't be out yet.

Cooker - great info to have. Thank you much. I'll probably do the tent thing as some of my gear might be borrowed and I would like to return it sans mouse-teeth marks.

Thank you so much.
