I was outside today playing with my dog in the snow. She jumped on me and her tooth ripped a hole in my Montbell Peak rain pants. I just got these after Xmas.

Is there any chance Montbell will replace them. Obviously I wouldn't tell them my dog did it. I figure there is no chance in **ll, but I thought I'd ask.

Or does anybody have any tips on repairing them?

Thanks,

MTS

Montbell will repair or replace them....if you lie to them about how it happened, which I don't think you really want to do.

Slap some duct tape on both sides of the tear, and move on. If you own a dog, sooner or later it'll damage or ruin something important to you, and there's really not much you can do about it.

Just be glad it was you and not somebody else your dog attacked.

You can buy rip stop nylon repair kits. Not sure they are that much better than duct tape though.

Can I sew it?

REI Gortex repair kit, stick a piece on each side and call it a day. About $7.50.

His dog was playing, not attacking. Don't be a troll.

Patching will probably work better. Problem with sewing is that you end up punching dozens and dozens of MORE holes into whatever you're working on, which kind of defeats the purpose of trying to maintain the item as "waterproof".

If you do sew it (or a tent or anything else) make sure and seam seal the repair afterwards, in order to fill in all the new holes you just made.

I think that Wally World sells adhesive-backed ripstop nylon patches in a packet - but I don't know if they're waterproof...match a color on the outside, use any color on the inside, and if necessary, slather on some waterproofing solution.

Definitely don't use duct tape if you hope to try and keep the things for more than another couple of months. Eventually it'll peel off and leave a terrible residue. Go with sewing the ripstop patch and then seam seal if you're capable and willing.

I would use the hot pink duct tape from Wmart. Or maybe purple.

Fashion statement.

A thermarest repair kit would do the trick.

Second that. The patch will outlast the pants.

Hey thanks a lot. Shelterbuilder: Now that I think about it, we've repaired our tubes that we use on the lake with stuff just like you mentioned. It ususally doesn't hold up, but thats b/c it's getting dragged through water at 20mph...I think it would work for rain pants..

I may also try the REI repair kit. Thanks Wrongway.
