I will be doing a section hike from Springer to HF this spring and was wondering if anyone could tell me about when the rhododendrons reach peak bloom in Grayson Highlands. I realize alot depends on the weather from year to year but was wondering if someone has an idea as to about the best time to catch them around their peak. I would like to try and adjust my start date and mileage to be there at about peak bloom. If anyone could help I would appreciate it.

FYI: The Rhododendrun Festival at Roan Mountain is usually the 3rd weekend in June.

The Grayson Highlands are worth seeing anytime of the year.

I visited there this past fall and it was absolutly beautiful. That place has really inspired me to see more of the trail!

Rhododendron enthusiasts are sure to enjoy The Roan Highlands (http://www.tjhsst.edu/~dhyatt/graphics/roan.html) which I've linked here before. I recommend his pages about identifying azaleas too.

I ran into the peak in the middle of June 2007 through Grayson Highlands. Really pretty section.
