I just got a pair of hiking shoes for my son. Hi-Tec Monsoon's for just under $16. They have a good selection of kid's stuff.

I couldn't believe some of the prices. I had to ask an employee twice. My buddy bought a 20 deg downed mummy bag, 2 person tent, foot print, cook set, and a couple of other small items. It cost him $200, not bad for $460 list prices. I wish I had know about it sooner. I'd have held out on buying some gear in December.

Brings back memories of my now 24-yr. old son. I took him on his first hike at 6. All he carried was a day pack with his jacket and a bunch of toys and we had a blast! Did the Raven Cliffs 3-mile fairly flat trail in GA.

BTW, he grew so fast that I had to get him new hiking shoes every trip. Wish I could have found some decent ones for $16.

Thanks Summit. That picture was taken last May on our trip SOBO from Clingmans Dome to Fontana Dam. He is a great hiker. Check out some of my other posts about our trip.

I know what you mean about growing. The shoes I bought yesterday are to replace the ones I bought about a year ago to get ready for that GSMNP trip. I am going to savour every moment. He'll be 24 too, in a blink of an eye.
