Hello ,

http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=9741AA00C&categoryid=2005

I would like any info possible on this stove. The price seems too good to be true,is that so ?

Also, what canisters are compatible w/ this stove? I have never seen a coleman canister around here. Mostly Msr,and primus.

Thanks for any help.

IT is a good stove. Light, inexpensive, and uses all other normal cannisters except the JetBoil which seems to make thiers slightly different so no one but them can use theirs for some reason (but the JetBoil gets to use everyone elses).

BackpackingLight did a comparison of performance of various canister stoves and the F1 was nearly as efficient as the JetBoil without needing tohave all those extra parts and you could still use a real pot. There are some plans out there for windscreens that make it run neck-in-neck with the JetBoil. Their review led me to buy mine and I still mostly use Alchohol but have that one for the odd occasion when I want a canister stove.

In short - it is a great value and deserves serious consideration.

I have two of them. I got one for $14 when our local surplus store went belly up and the other I got on eBay for $10 plus $10 shipping. It's an little heavier than it's MSR brothers but performs exactly as well and I've stepped on it in the dark wearing wafflestompers and didn't even bent a pot support. Call me a dirtbagger but I'll buy cheaper, more durable stuff anyday.

Thanks for the great info. Looks like I really need one.
I have never used a canister stove.

Only SVEA 123s and optmus 8Rs,great stoves. I like white gas and Kero, but thought a canister might be a new option.Seems everyone is heading down that road.

The only knock I have on cannister stoves is the small, nonrefillable, non recyclable cannisters. Up here we have to dispose of them separately at a special depot. What happens down there? Just chuck them in the garbage? I have a feeling that's where most up here go, no matter the regs.

I use mine for target practice until there's not much left... ;)

It's a great stove. I have it's predesessor made by epigas. They were bought out by coleman. It's still basicaally the same stove. Ive been using it for 15 years and it's great.

Yea that looks familiar!
I found a similar product at REI that incuded a aluminum pot and pan/cover about two years ago. Click below as this just hit the fan.

Enjoy! The gas should fit inside the pot saving space and weight and come under 1 lbs.

This is not true. I used the F1 Ultralight with a 100g Jetboil cannister in temps down to 18 degrees last month. No problems. In fact, I boiled water for many others after the communal Wisperlite broke down! The Jetboil cannisters have a Lindal valve just like the others.

Oh, and the stove... awesome. So cheap and high BTU! Good efficiency. Highly recommended!

I stand corrected. I was going off the BPL article so I never tried it. Good to know.

Look at the heat output, 16,400 BTU. Most stoves including white gas max out at 10,500-11,000. The coleman fuel may be a bit supercharged too. If you have a cook pot that can put all that heat to use, I'd say you have a winner. The price is sweet too.

Sure, but something I noticed when I did stove tests - though a stove may have a max output that is super high - that setting is usually very inefficient, even on the JetBoil. 1/4 throttle on most stoves will heat your food plenty quick and save you fuel.

Thanks for all the info. Looks like a winner. Your opinions are appreciated. Looks like this one will be my first canister stove.
