Trail intersection near Thomas Knob Shelter

I need help remembering a trail name. Last April I had to bail out of an AT hike due to a companion's injury. We passed Thomas Knob shelter on the AT heading south and came to a side trail to the left that used a small ladder to cross over a wire fence and then led into a big open field. If I remeber correctly, the small ladder is depicted on a poster hanging on the wall at MRO.

Anywho, we hit a wide gravel horse trail from there and decended down into Elk Garden. I was wondering if anyone new at what milepoint that little ladder is on the AT and what the name of that horse trail is?

Virginia Highlands horse trail (orange blazed) it's about 1 mile or so before you get to Deep gap SOBO

those trails suck .........horses have ruined the trails its hard to tell a trail from a horse path
