March 29-April 3-4, I will be hiking From Bly to Springer. I know these questions are over asked.

What is the shortest way to get to Bly Gap? (We don’t want to back track and we have a 4x4 for drop off) Next, where is the best place to park at Springer MT? (Again we don’t want to back track and we want the shortest route to the parking lot)

Last will any of you’sguys be out on the trail that week?

Parking lot at FS42 0.9 mile North of Springer Mountain.

The closest road to Bly Gap without backtracking is at Deep Gap, NC on FS 71. Take US 64 out of Franklin heading toward Standing Indian Campground. Contnuing on US 64 past the road leading to SIG turn left on FS 71 and travel about 6 miles to Deep Gap. You will walk about 6.8 miles south on the AT to reach Bly Gap.

If you redecide to do minimal backtrack and have a 4 wheel drive vehicle the closest access to Bly Gap is on Upper Hightower Road outside of Hiawassee. That road meets the AT at Blue Ridge Gap. You would have to walk 3 miles north to Bly Gap and then retrace your steps.
