Most folks - especially local folks - don't realize that, in Pa., the AT runs across NPS land, State Game Commission land, State Forest land, State Park land, and some local municipality land, and that the land-use regulations are different for each agency. State Game Commission regulations tend to be the most strict - and more of the trail is located on State Game lands than on any other type of land here in Pa. SOG's link to the PGC site provides a good overview of the PGC, it's history, and function.

I'd be interested in a history of the Game Lands themselves. Sure would be tough to research without access to the PGC's own files. The impression I get from reading some of the local historians about SGL 211 at least, is that the PGC, at least formerly, practiced deliberate obliteration - and they don't research PGC files either.
