So far I'm enjoying Stumpknocker's, Sgt. Rock's (of course!), and Skittles'.

Been following Skittles thus far. Saw Yeti's today-pretty simple, short and to the point, with a few interesting thoughts floating.

Haven't looked too far ahead yet, but will probably find some PCTers to follow, and WB's Wrongway 08, Kirby and others.

Doesn't seem like much CDT activity yet on trailjournals.

Have checked Rock's, but with the almost HOURLY updates on this site, no real reason to check his progress there. :)

A short note to journalers this year. Ultimately it's your journal, so do whatever you want, don't try to please your audience. However, brevity goes a long way in an effective journal. I wanted to keep a record of EVERYTHING that happened and ended up yammering on about so much boring crap that it took away from the interesting/powerful things I may have possesed. Plus keeping it direct and brief gives way to good daily momentum, and readership (which completely goes against what I originally wrote).

Just something to think about.

There are several ways to get into Trail Journals. One is when you're planning to hike a particular trail yourself, and read some TJs to see what sort of problems someone who has already done it has had, hoping that maybe you can avoid that problem. Another is that you find a really good writer, whose journal is worth reading as if it were a newspaper serial. Last, but definitely not least, it's fun to follow your friends, acquaintances, and sometimes friends of friends on their hikes.

BTW, it's hard to tell who has the best until they start hiking, right now I'm keeping up with about 15-20, it's easy once you're up to date. I've read all of Stumpy's journals, reading Rocks, Survivor's, have to check out Skittles, and I'm following numerous others.

wow, this makes me slightly nervous to post my trail journals. I'll be double checking for typos and hoping that I'm not too boring :). I plan on keeping one to involve my family and friends back home but I didn't realize other people might be reading as well.

Now FD, I can't believe you left out Kirby. Have you seen his journal? That boy is CUTE! (Sorry Kirby. Don't mind me. I was young once, too. A long time ago.)

THANKS TAZI AND FD!!! It's nice to know someone is following along on the journey and gives me that sisterly support. ;)

I have been looking at several journals myself. There are quite a few this year that are great 'reads'. I have read all of Stumpknocker's and Sgt. Rock. I have to say that this week should prove to be interesting on the trailjournal pages. They have that 44 hikers start this week. Last week there were 9 starting. Boy, it's getting real.

GOOD LUCK CLASS OF '08.:banana:dance:jump

I was following the Stumpknocker but now he has left the trail for a long detour on wheels. So, now I am helping him keep his journal readers informed of his where-abouts as Mrs. Gorp his transcriber is out there with him.

Since my hiking has been put on a back burner I have decided to transcribe for Pockets. I am looking forward to hiking the trail through his notes.

To all those hiking and those taking the time to keep public journals, I wish them grand adventures.

To many journalist to name here, but I will enjoy hiking the trail precariously through them. Some are very good journalist and others are just so so. It's the former that really gets and hold my interest and I will follow them all the way through.

Furlough,

Okay, I've got a journal now. You should be able to click on it under my name. Let me know if it's not working. As for LW, I will try to add lots of suspense, drama, satire, and comedy with a hint of uniqueness in my entries under the section "for LW". In addition, for all my family and friends, I will also include the dry, boring truth.

Roots
03-11-2008, 23:36
Hey LW, I wrestled a bear yesterday and when I finished a skunk was looking at me like it didn't know what to do. I beat the H*LL out of it and changed it's color to blue instead of black.

DOES THAT HELP?:D

JK...Luv u, Man. Tell Gypsy hey for me!!!! I'll see you guys in May.

****waves frantically and jumps up and down!!!!!**** Don't forget me!!! I'm back up at TJ as Mrs Baggins. It may just be a section hike but it's important to me. My church asked that I keep the journal for the members to read. You have to type it in just that way, Mrs Baggins, no period after Mrs and keep the cases and spaces that way. Then you'll see Mrs Baggins 2008. That's me!!:banana

In addition to some of the above recommendations I think I might find an interesting SOBO trailjournal to live vicariously through. Oops. I mean to live vicariously thru. ;)

Now that nearly all the '08 NOBOs are on the trail, I thought I'd bump this thread and see if anyone had new recommendations for good journals from this year's crop. I try to follow one journal each year, but it has to be really, really good...

V8 and Auntie Mame are two sisters with pretty good journals this year. The thing is lots of hikers have a few good entries, but it is hard to keep up a consistent journal and keep hiking.

Captain, it's too early to tell about our journals, we're just wanna-be's till July.

V8 and Auntie Mame are two sisters with pretty good journals this year. Yeah, they are the best this year IMO. When Bananas was hiking with them, I'd read all three journals for each day, observing how each hiker's comments were flavored with the own past history and current condition and mood. I did the same with Hot Dog and Wench in 2003.
