I'm going to be using postholer.com on my thru and I was wondering if there was a guidebook that has the gps coordinates written down for each shelter. It seems to make a lot more sense to just have them written in there. Otherwise I will probably have to carry a printout of the coordinates for all the shelters.

I know there are some files that work with google earth (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/download.php?Number=21124&t=k&om=1) floating around on the site. I suppose they have the coordinates.

Give this (http://www.cs.utk.edu/~dunigan/at/googleat.php?lat=39.8&lon=-77.48&scale=6) a try. :D

What you are asking for is available several different ways, This Website has the KML file for the shelters for google the Administor ATTROL has decided (Some time ago) to make it only available to donating members. The ATC also offers data with their detailed webpage. They have it stored as a track and/also as a Route for general GPS. There are several people here like myself who will send you the information on how to convert the information into files that Garmin can understand.

Donations are accepted by PAYPAL in the upper right hand corner of the front page to this website. Usually $10 will support the site costs.

I hope that helps - By the way the benifits are numerous.

Well the thing is none of the data files will help me, as I'm not planning on actually taking a gps device. I only want the coordinates for each shelter written on paper, so I can write that in to each email post to postholer and it will translate that data to the map. I have seen the list so it should be no problem to print that and tote it along. But my question was is there a guidebook like the thru-hiker companion that has the information already written in, next to the mile#, and information on water source, etc.

You may want to email Scott, it's possible he has a list.

Just visit: http://www.cs.utk.edu/~dunigan/at/index.php

All you have to do is click on a shelter name and it will give you the coords. If you still require something like a plain text file for Excel spreadsheet drop me a PM, I might be able to hook you up.
