What are some of the last minute things you do before you leave for the trail?

Some of mine were/are:

Put the kayaks up in their rack and tie them down

Tell the dogs in the neighbor good bye ( while walking my dog)

Look for the mailing tape I bought for the packages to be mailed to me

Wonder if I put something in my pocket and not in my pack, if it really counts as weight

Do I have time for one more Starbucks!!!!!!!!!!

Mar 1 !!!!! See you there! :banana:banana Never used this one before

Checklist. There is a reason even pilots with thousands of flights under their belts use checklists. It would suck to be out in the middle of the woods without something essential.

Such as the time I walked out without the bottom half (including the crank) of my little backpacking coffee grinder, and all I had were whole beans. Pounding the beans between two rocks works, but certainly isn't optimal! Although the entertainment factor for the other hikers was there.

Unplug all those electronics and appliances that draw power when not in use and flip the breaker on the water heater. It all adds-up over six months.

Eat a cheesesteak, and spend lots of time with my cat. She apparently spent days sitting by the door after I left:(

Got stretch limoed to the trail. Check this out. Continental Airlines sent my pack (checked baggage) on a different flight that ended up getting delayed. It was Easter Sunday and really busy. I went to the luggage recovery people and exaggerated a little about the importance of the trip, the worth of the gear and the carefully planned shuttle to the trail I had missed. They ended up limoing me to the AT in a stretch limo just be nice (or to avoid my "lawsuit" lol).

I was in the back of a stretch limo, in my hiking clothes, with my pack in the trunk rapping with the driver who was 15 feet away with the sunroof and tunes. It was very meant to be because the driver couldn't find the 42 access road and I ended up doing the Approach Trail (which I'm thankful for). Pretty shweet.

Happy hiking!

I leave in a week. I've been going through the house and throwing away useless junk: most anything I haven't touched in the last few months. I've also sold a bunch of it on eBay which is going to help pay for this thru-hike! I suspect the last thing I will do before leaving is visit the post office and send out the last of my junk to whoever bought it.

Kiss the girlfriend goodbye, pet the dog, smash the TV and Cell phone, pick up the pack(oops I forgot the 1 1/2 oz. Platypus, I can tell without looking!), and take the limo to the trail like Time To Fly 97 LOL!

For some reason, I decided to list my condo three hours before I left for GA and then proceeded to negotiate an offer on top of Springer the next day with poor cell phone reception. I highly recommend you NOT do this (even though it was only on the market for less than 24 hrs) but it completely stressed me out the first night I was doing my hike last year.

We are planning a going away shindig next Sunday at the Mexican Restaurant in Town. However, we are safely planning it 5 days before we leave. By then the heartburn and giant beer hangover should have subsided.

Oh yeah, sell my car. Got my first offer today, but the guy low balled me. Wait and see.

Burn the schedule.
On my 2nd video "Here and Now in Nepal" we show the scene where we burn the schedule just before the hike.

We went into Dahlonega the day before and had fabulous fried grouper sandwiches, fries, and pints of Guiness. Then we went to a nearby ice cream shop and had 2 scoops each of excellent ice cream.
