Thanks!Stumpknocker sent me an e-mail from San Diego a week or so back.If they are heading east it would be practical to use interstate 8 across Cajon Pass. This route leaves Winterhaven,Calif and enters Yuma,Arizona near the Mexican border of San Luis,Sonoita. He didn't tell me this was the route they were on but they would have to have headed north a long way to reach I-10,Oppx 179 miles into Arizona they will intersect into I-10 near Casa Grande by traveling I-8 east. This is the vacinity of Toltec,Eloy and Sun Valley,Arizona.

Got it Ron ::: 244 miles from San Juan Capistrano (where Mom lives) The only confusing part is its only 22 miles from Blythe to Quartzsite (could be a "nero" day) I'll find 'em!!!

Ok,if they were in Blythe they traveled north and were on I-10Yes, Ron, they swung north from El Centro. Here's a map of their trip so far. Green is start, yellow are nightly stops, and red is where they will be tomorrow. (Route is not exact on map, but fairly close.)

HA! You beat me, Sly. I was going to say... just seek out the smell of fried chicken.

No it's the smell of Starbucks before noon and the smell of fried chicken after 1 p.m.

Should be fun locating them (would you rather phone them?) :D

Stumpy called me around noon and they just entered Arizona and sounded in great spirits.

Fried chicken was one of the first things he mentioned. In fairness we were talking about it in context of me bringing some to Many Sleeps on Springer.

According to their journal notes that would be correct. They enjoyed watching the Imperial Sands Dune Buggies.

The duo is in TX. No notes, they must be too busy having fun, but a picture is worth a 1000 words. New ones posted last night.

Congrats to Stumpy and Mrs. Gorp. They completed the Southern Tier Cross Country Bike Ride arriving in Florida this weekend making them Bicycle Triple Crowners.

He packed up his bicycle and retrieved his backpack from storage. He will be back on the AT heading north sometime this week to rejoin his 08 Thruhike currently in progress.

I thought he had been in the desert toooo long when I caught him strolling out of my shed with his backpack and a set of golfclubs.

congratulations on the bike trip. Mrs. Gorp too.

They don't look any the worse for wear.

Interesting life style he's picked for himself.

I'll enjoy living vicariously again when he gets back on the trail and makes daily updates.
