March 3, 2009. That is my projected start date for my first official section hike.
In early 2007 I hiked the approach trail several times, a short day hike on Blood Mountain and then a short day hike in the Smokies.
Over Memorial Day weekend I went from Amicalola to Neels and fell in love with the AT. It truly captivated me and since then the trail has called to me on a daily basis.
I asked for a leave of absence from work this year for one month and was approved. My wife was not, so we cancelled. I will go for two months next year.
This is the greatest thing. When I told my boss that I'll ask next year he said "don't give up on this. This will be something that you will always remember." I don't know about you, but that is so meaningful to hear, and have that support.
So I am officially throwing my name in the Class of 2009 and probably through 2011 hat.
