hey everyone, well I have had a really slow start to my hike. Just barely made it to woody gap yesterday and I started on the 29th but all of those details will be on my journals but I am now known as "Mad Hatter" now. :sun:sun:banana:banana

The General gave it to me because my bucket hat has a bunch of Polka dots and circles on it.

Hi Mad Hatter,
I am following your journal.

Is your pack weight excessive or are you doing okay?

Be patient with yourself, you will get stronger and stronger and in 3 weeks things will be much easier.

Maybe my friends and I will see you on the trail.

Take good care and enjoy your "vacation"

MH:
Take it as slow as you can, then go slower. A once in a lifetime experience can only be summed up in , well, a lifetime. You can never truly express the Trail to those that have not experienced it.

I am enjoying it and meeting some great people. The pack weight hasn't been too much of a problem although it is definitely contributing to my slower days. My main learning curve is food. I had way too much starting out and that was after sending almost 8 lbs on ahead to neels. So I ended up with two days off instead of one because I was expecting a package yesterday that didn't get here until today and I wouldn't have made it to Neels in one day. But I got my package today and I am more than ready to get back out tomorrow in the lovely snow, and I should have some good company at least starting out. Maybe Mame and V8 can help me keep up my pace.

I met you on the trail Sunday as you were coming down from Springer. Stopped and talked for a minute. (I was heading up from the service road to meet my son, Zak, to take pictures as he started his hike, too,)

Good luck and enjoy the journey. Great trailname.

Liz, since you're not "inCali" anymore, I guess your name change was due.

Happy hiking.

well I don't technically need to be considering going back to work until May so I may end up deciding to get back out there (I definitely still have the itch.) The main part was I kept feeling like I should be spending time with my family and then when I got back here to Texas I found out my brother is getting a divorce, and he really seems depressed about it. He is going to volunteer to go to Iraq for the rest of his inactive reserve time with the Marines.
