View Full Version : % of threads that are ABSOLUTELY USELESS

Just wondering what everyone else thinks.

What percentage of threads here on WhiteBlaze are ABSOLUTELY USELESS??

I'm not trying to be negative, but as I sit here this morning enjoying my coffee and scrolling thru the list, I've been smacked in the head by the number of them that (to me at least) seem to have been posted by folks that know how to type but don't have a brain that can think.

I realize that by posting this I've bumped the % of useless threads up by at least .1 or .2 %.

Please, someone post your gearlist, your maildrop schedule, or your question about which color of underwear to take now so that we all can give our input into your hike.

This thread, however, seems to have been started by one of the people you are trying not to be negative about. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

"....I used to see a large box by the railroad, six feet long, by three wide, in which laborers locked tools at night, and it suggested to me that every man who was hard pressed might get such a one for a dollar, and, having bored a few auger holes to admit the air at least, get into it when it rained and at night, and hook down the lid, and so have freedom in his love, and in his soul be free." I'd say most threads have some usage. And, relatively speaking, the internet is such an easy way to generate answers and critiques, it is almost silly not to consult it. Is it overdone? Sure. Have some threads replaced what could be done with a little research? Guess so. But overall, I think of these threads as another resource. For entertainment purposes, if not, informational value.

To seriously answer the question, I would say none are useless. They are informative, entertaining (this one included), they can bring up a topic that brings the community together, or alternatively create a discussion about different perspectives, or just get you thinking.

For example, some of you may agree with what I've just said, some may be more straight-to-the-point and not care about the social aspects. It doesnt matter, hike your own hike, and post your own post. Thats whats so great about it!
