I'm not sure I know what you are meaning. I suppose your could simply slice up powerbars and put them in the dehydrator, but I doubt there is adequate weight difference to make it worth the work.

Are you makeing your own power bar? If you cook them in the oven then you can cut them to what sizes you like, then wrap in plastic wrap then freezce until you need them.

Highest calorie per ounce last time I checked was Little Debbie cakes.

Another option. Homemade granola. Heavy oil, nuts, coconut.

Store bought dried dates - worked for the Romans.

Dry nuts are great for fat and bulk.

I just wonder about the benefit of reinventing the wheel by attempting to dehydrate power bars.

great idea on the home made granola bars. lots of olive oil will bulk up the calories. looked at the calorie density of foods last night. powerbars are about 40% and olive oil has a 94% calorie density. not sure how well the body would cope with high amounts of it though

Squeaky, this is beginning to sound like a hike w/o resupply. Care to share what you're dreaming about?

FYI. Olive oil will taste odd in some things vs canola. Maybe try small batch first.

Or maybe light olive oil.

I have had better luck with loose clumps rather than bar. Have fun.

sorry roland i cant go into the specifics just yet. as i said earlier in this thread my foot is still bad and i need to get that sorted before i can set my mind to another long distance trail. plus my first baby is due any day now and finance will dictate any further trips.

thanks for the tips mudhead. taste doesnt bother me and i will let you know how the experiments turn out. something like a peanut butter, almond, oat olive oil bar with sugar. aiming for 800-1000 calories per 4oz. 2lbs of food for 6000+ calories
