Mags or others with experience. I've been tossing around the idea of a CT thru this year or next. Now I'm beginning to wonder, would it be worth the extra effort to hike the CO portion of the CDT instead? I understand that they share a decent chunk of trail and that the CO CDT would require some additional time and planning. Just looking for opinions from those that have some knowledge of both trails.

Thanks.

The CT tends to stay lower overall whereas the CDT tends to go higher.

They share about 200 miles of the same trail. Of course, you can mix and match and still start the CT and decide to stay high the whole way once the CDT/CT meet up.

The section from where the CT/CDT split for the last time is actually quite nice and worth it.

Basically, if you want to see a unique environment and complete a whole trail, do the CT.

If you want some high country adventures, stick tot CDT.

Both trails are nice in their own way.

If you like being in the woods, the CT is the trail.
If you like being above treeline, the CDT CO is the one.

Sometimes you may find it a good idea to switch back and forth depending on weather, lightning, etc.

If you want to complete the whole CDT Co, it is somewhere around 650 miles compared to around 500 for the CT i believe.
