Brought Matty back to Waynesboro Tuesday PM with Bfitz. Presumably, he left town Wednesday AM. For most folks, this would mean he'll be in Front Royal around Tuesday and should be here in Harpers Ferry next Friday afternoon.
Of course, this is Matty we're talking about.
He'll be here in Harper's a week from Sunday. :D
Thanks for the update, my friend. :)

So, Wonder, will you be here in Duncannon for the feed July 4th weekend?

I'm very sorry.....but no. I work in the tourist industry, so.......
I'll be leaving my job in the end of July. Should be heading north then. I could see a stop in DUncannon..........it's on the way, ya know;)

He has been doing some road walking on Skyline Drive (the original A.T.) and some hiking on the current A.T.

Personally, I'm a little disappointed. I agreed that it had to be closed, but why delete all those posts? People should be able to see how posters on here really are, and not just for one day, but for all time.

But, back to the program. I am, indeed, interested in where Matthewski is. Met him, liked him, think he's a character. And wish him the best with his teenager, too.

After a trillion calorie carbo-loading session at the chinese buffet in charlestown in preparation, he was planning on hiking like 38 miles tonight with johnny thunder out of harpers ferry but then it started storming something fierce so I dropped them off at the hostel where they will likely stay the night. Will see them again in Duncannon or thereabouts in a few days. My analysis is that the thing with Max is minor and will work out for the best and Mattski gets another lesson on airing his laundry on whiteblaze. No harm done. Glad to hear Matty was indoors for last night's storms - I was worried about him - though he has one of the best tents to be riding out such weather (MegaLight (http://www.bdel.com/gear/mega_light.php)) - stable, protective, airy and plenty of room. Go, Matty, go.

Not for nothin', but when you have the same individual over & over again belittling people, being abusive, finding creative ways to bypass the systems profanity filters, and threatening people with physical violence, all the while claiming he's a victim.... Jack lost the moral high ground with his threats of physical assault, and his discovery that he could call a person a pussy without getting filtered out.

His friends saw fit to delete those posts on Jack's behalf, but they will still remain part of his legacy for a long time to come for those of us who read them.

Are threats of assault criminal when you can't follow through right away? I don't know, I will leave that for others. But they were reprehensible.

Comparing Mowgli's use of the word "shat" is hardly comparable.

and other things that you can do with bacon besides just eating it...

Like using the bacon fat to burn in a bacon fat lantern.. Does anyone even know how to make a bacon fat lantern???

and using bacon fat in a bacon fat stove. What would one of those look like?

and how would you transport the bacon fat without getting it all over the inside of your pack?

Well, wouldn't all the fat be consumed, hence negating the possibility of other uses of bacon fat? Now, the bacon bra that came up some time ago is definitely an interesting multi-use item.

Nonsenese, bacon grease is a great source of calories to keep you hiking. I am not sure what the calorie to weight ratio is for that, but I would assume it is similar to other fats like butter and olive oil, which are up around 200 calories per ounce, close to twice what you get from most foods that are primarily carbohydrates like pasta and rice.

Save Bacon fat to use in roux instead of butter.

Or coat bread in bacon fat instead of eggs and fry for bacon french toast.

On the topic of internet drama, I figure everyone gets to be an ******* in their own idiomatic way. I don't think it's justified to single one ******* out and tar and feather them (except of course, folks are entitled to their opinions and thats what flame posts are for anyway. What internet are you from anyway?). As the song goes, "I'm not innocent, you're not innocent, no-one's innocent." People need to give it a rest. The Yukon does flow uninterrupted from Whitehorse (where I am right now, in fact) to the Bering Sea.

It does sound great, but only during a limited "window of opportunity".
(Before the killer mosquitos get too thick, that is)

However, I did catch a power catamaran (http://www.pbase.com/mad_monte1/image/54935650) on the Yukon from Eagle, AK to Dawson City; that's a little over 100 miles.

I took plenty of pictures [1260, to be exact], and uploaded them onto my computer.
(A lot of those are duplicates, or didn't come out well)

Now to go through 'em, delete a bunch and upload some to the gallery here. They're not all hiking-related.
(I took a flight to look at Denali National Park from the air, for example)

I got a great shot of a moose, up close and personal, and also of a wolf.

Matthewski spent most of last weekend sitting cross-legged in front of his teepee, bent over an alcohol stove. (A gallon can of denatured alcohol in the teepee.) It started with bacon, I believe. Moved on to french toast with jam at one point. Last seen working on a huge fat steak.

There was live music playing 500 feet away, but it seems to me a lot of the thru hikers never left the orange-fenced gulag, except for bodily functions and for a game of ultimate frisbee on Saturday afternoon.

Lots of chit-chat. Yakkity-yak. There's an obvious bond among the current thru-hikers. Jack and Bfitz inserted themselves into it with ease. I saw lots of Bugler being smoked and adult beverages shared... if there was anything harder than that it was mostly under wraps.

He fried up the bacon and then removed it from the pan and poured off the grease. Then pancake batter was poured from the baggy and topped with several pieces of bacon and cooked to perfection.
