My wife gave me one of these for my birthday. It's made by Guyout designs (makers of the squishy bowls), and basically whaat it is is a top for a Nalgene or similar bottle, with a light in it that turns the bottle into a lantern, when filled with water. Does anyone have any experience with these things, and are they worth the extra few ounces?

Saw them someplace. It's a neat idea. I've seen diy candle powered ones also that make me think about combined light and heat for steeping tea while reading.

Do you know of a site where I could find the candle powered ones?

You'll probably get more light per weight using an equivalent candlepower light with a single AAA battery. You can make a reflector from a piece of aluminum foil and shine the light at it. Of course your headlamp will work, too, but it probably draws enough power to drain your batteries quickly.
I have a single AAA flashlight with an aluminum body and an LED which I bought at Wally World for around $5.00. So far I have over 20 hours on it and it's still bright as ever.

Tinny was selling them, or the directions to make on, IIRC.
