I've added a vendor booth application for download on the VENDORS page, or you can get it here. It's an MS Word document: http://traildays.info/design/ATD_vendor_application.doc

Depends on if you're selling something or not. If you're going to be a vendor you can set up in the park for $250.00 for a whopping big space of 8x8.

I asked her what was involved in setting up a card table to sell a couple hundred dollars worth of handicrafts, and her response (as if it made sense) was to rent an 8'x8' booth for 250.00. I don't need nearly that much space. Does anyone know of a vendor who'd sublet a fraction of their booth for a hundred bucks or something?

Sorry for the inconvience everyone, but we've had bunch of problems with the Trail Days site in the last 24 hours. As a result, we've had to change the domain name... which is now www.traildays.us (http://www.traildays.us)

Please update your bookmarks. There are also a few broken links that will need to be fixed, but the majority of things should be working again.

Thanks,
PB

Does what to help? I'd then still have to find someone to share my booth with to cut costs down to something practical, the exact same situation as I'd have had before.

Think bigger MS. Just use the second table to give away free coffee and donuts or something. Or let people store their packs underneath it. I don't know man it's your second table!

Why don't you just walk aroudn with your "handi-crafts" and sell them, or find a shady spot under a tree and lay down a blanket, sell them there...I don't think you'll need to sublet a booth, seems a bit much

Hikers looking for rides into Trail Days....check your resources or hitchhike. Bus.

I always have my vehicle full of hikers when I drive into Trail Days. I even picked up hikers all the way up in Bastian WV on I-77 going south.

I'll be pulling in early to Trail Days.

Check back here for updates, I'll post when I'll be in, I'll have my laptop with me and I'll watch for hikers needing rides. I was going to catch a bus down and hike, but I have things to tend to (like socializing with Lone Wolf & Gypsy ha ha).

Otherwise, check the Damascus hiker resources or you'll have to hike in brother.

Does what to help? I'd then still have to find someone to share my booth with to cut costs down to something practical, the exact same situation as I'd have had before.Just set up your table in front of your tent in the campground, you could just offer your stuff to passers by without the neccesity of renting a spot on the main concourse. Folks wander around, you'll get business.

What Wolf said. If you set up shop in the campground and start selling stuff, you'll be asked to either shut it down, or go to the town park and purchase a vendor's license. The idea is to keep the campground commercial-free and let the reps provide free repair service to hikers.

bfitz
04-17-2008, 22:29
bad adviceYeah but he's just selling a few handmade crafts and stuff. Admittedly, that's a little more rainbow than I expected from Smitty, but it's not like he's a commercial operation, not competing with anyone. I've bought some hemp necklaces and stickers from the back of someones car at traildays before and no big deal. Why I think some folks we both know well have made some stickers and I bought them in a dark tent in a shady part of the campground.

When you think about it it shouldnt be a problem if people want to sell their trinkets from their tentsites.

The difference is, Damascus makes $250 off whatever you are selling for supplying a centralized area for you to sale them.

The ads, venue, basically a spot of grass and where the crowds knowledge of 'this is where i go to buy things' etc...is what you get for your money. If you choose not to use the most advertised area to sale your goods and if people choose to buy them anyway then it should be okay.

Some people dont have $250 to pay before they sell their items, and most of those people who have inexpensive trinkets didnt have a town or individual giving them the backing money to make the things in the first place.

There is a big difference (In expense and profit) between a person selling a few necklaces and company selling backpacks, shoes, etc...

Its wierd in a lot of ways, yet I understand it, yet...I dont....

Its wierd in a lot of ways, yet I understand it, yet...I dont....Yeah, seriously. Folks selling handmade trinkets and stickers and the like they made basically for fun (like, for instance my Billville T-shirt) won't make 250 bucks total, much less make that to pay for the huckster table and still have something to show for their effort afterwards. No way a guy with a few stickers should pay 250 bucks when he's only gonna take in 50 bucks, 25 of which just defrays the cost of making the stickers. Come on, we all know the difference between a hippie scrounging up some lunch money and a commercial operation.

However, I suppose giving permission to do such things invites certain folks to take advantage. I'd say I advocate forbidding it, but tolerating it generally when it actually happens.

Will anyone (vendors, White Blaze, etc) still be there if we get there around mid-day???? We can get home going down Hwy 26 from there rather down Hwy 81 to 77 and I'd love to stop by - but not if everyone has packed up and left.

Hey guys, I've met some of you before, I've been to Trail Days the past 5 years, done sections of the AT as well as trails in 40 other states. I mostly post over at thebackacker.com, but since I had some shots of people who post here I thought I'd share my pictures with you guys. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeremyhays/sets/72157605329398431/ Most of my other years of TDs pictures are on the Trail Days website, these aren't up yet. Enjoy and let me know if you like them and who you are if you're in any and I'll add it to the caption!

BTW, what happened to the dude that gets really dressed up every year, he was Alice from the Brady Bunch one year, then a LED night another??
