I just found this site, it tells you how to make these Survival Ration Bars, they actually sound like they would taste good. For backpacking they would make a great snack food or even a lunch. It says each bar is 1000 calories.

From the nutrition labels of the ingredients in my pantry;

3 cup of oatmeal = 900c 240g
2½ NIDO = 1125c 225g
3 TSP honey = 180c 63g
½ of 6oz pkg lemon jello = 320c 88g

My early morning arithmetic results in totals of 2525c 616g/22oz; about 115c/oz before accounting for the weight of the water and assuming no calories are lost during the baking. A low calorie density but it sounds tasty.
