Trying to decide on rain gear for thru hike. Have read a lot of good reviews on the precip, but haven't been able to find any info on the Sierra Designs Cyclone shell. Wondered how it compares, functionally and weight wise? I'll be using a poncho/tarp most of the time. Getting rain gear to wear over down jacket when its really nasty and to function in place of wind shirt. I'm not impressed with Frogg Toggs durability and fit. Any recommendations in the $85 or less category would be appreciated.

Check out the deal on the Precip at Basegear.com. There's only a few left . . . may not even have your size, but they are $65 - free overnight shipping. That's where I got mine and love it. I haven't tested it in heavy rain. It's obviously done well in light/moderate rain. What I really like so far is its ability for warmth as a shell over fleece jackets. I am amazed at how warm I stay with what seems like practically nothing on. Sorry can't add anything about the SD product.
