He competed that AT last year. He started on May 1st and ended on Aug 15th. This seems really fast to me. What is the record for completeing it? He also did some 30 mile days. That just seems almost impossible. Here is a link to his site.

 WOW 47 DAYS. That is crazy. OK. I was just :-?. I'm fairly new to hiking and learning about the AT. I first started hiking a couple years ago and started my first backpacking trips last year and am now hooked. I love being out there. Someday I would like to attempt the trek from Georgia to Maine.

Most people take 5-6 months.

3.5 months is faster than 95% of all thrus.

Super nice dude. We overlapped for about a week in PA. One of the best guys I met last summer.

I enjoyed all his documentary videos and kept up with him along his hike during june, july, and august. He had his stuff together.

Hey everyone, sorry I never popped up in this thread. I actually responded to RITBlake's thread but missed this one. I generally posted most of my stuff over at trailjournals.

To answer your question about my pace, it was a little quicker than I would have liked, but still not nearly as fast as some of the guys I hiked with in PA and Maine (ie clured). I would have loved to have taken a few more zero days in some of the great trail towns, but I had grad school starting up in the fall. Also, I knew the more time I took off in towns, the more money I would spend :-)

If I do end up making a 2010 bid for the PCT (which is still looking good), I'm definitely budgeting some more time.

thanks for the kind words clured. (I'm assuming DQ right?) The feeling's mutual. Mike and I kept bringing you up in conversation in Maine as a source of motivation. How was your PCT hike this year?

Take care everyone, and I'll try to do better about posting on WB.
