Here's a new hammock design. Not exactly the easiest thing to hang but it sure looks like fun! http://www.thetreepeecompany.com/

I wish I had one as a kid.

It looks too heavy for backpacking.

And its a bargain, too at almost $600.00, not including freight:D

It is depressing the depths to which the dollar has sunk. Five years ago it would have cost less than half that!

Five years ago, when the 2003's average exchange rate was $1.64, it would have cost $$490. In other words, there's been a mere 22% increase in cost since 2003.

That's a bit over 4% a year compounded...compared to the five year average U.S. inflation rate of ~ 2 7/8% and all the other 'stuff' going on the dollar is doing better relative to the British pound than one would expect.

Currencies fluctuate...in 1950 this play toy would have cost over $835. Now, that is a lot of money for a 'hammock' that's too small to lay down inside.:D

Is this turning into a political thread??? If so, please move it. I removed myself from that portion of the forums to stay out of this kind of thing!

Nope. You stand corrected:
Five years ago it was about 1 For 1
In April 2002 it was ~0.88.
That is a loss of ~ one half since!

Chill out, dude!:D Threre's no political discussion about the dollar here. There is a difference of opinion between highway and me about whether the OP's referenced url shows the price in British pounds or Euros. I say pounds, he says, euros...

If it is a "neat little toy" forum members will want to know how much it costs...;)

Right! Politics has nothing to do with it. It is a question of economics instead

Even if affordable, it would take a mighty tree limb to hang it from! Or a carpenter/skills to build a stand to hold it....nice backyard conversation piece...

Let's leave Jesus out too. He can log on if he wants, but right now he's busy with a bunch of other stuff.
