There will be two AT Corridor Monitor Training Workshops conducted near Hanover/Lyme/Warren New Hampshire May 10th and 11th, 2008. These will be conducted in the field rain or shine on either of the listed dates. Currently there are Monitor vacancies in both NH and VT that need staffing. If you are interested in attending either of these days, email Tom Wheeler nh_hillwalker@ netscape.com

Other weekday dates are also possible which would involve working and learning on the boundary with the Boundary Maintenence Crew from ATC Boiling Springs while they are up here in the area.

I recently took an AT Corridor Monitor Training Workshops offered ny the NY/NJ Trail conference. We did some classroom work at the RPH Cabin and it was very interesting. Then after a short lunch break we spent the afternoon doing field work locating line trees, and monuments along with their witness trees. In the process we also found a hunting stand and some garbage on the National Park Service land. It all made me realize how "fragile" the AT corridor is and so I signed up to be a corridor monitor here in NY.

If anyone is even remotely considering getting involved let me suggest that you take one of these workshops, and then armed with all the information, you can decide if it's something you want to be involved in.

My wife and I sometimes like to go out bushwacking, and now we have a reason to :)
