Anyone have any information on the Doyle? A friend who starts his thru tomorrow has tried to call for several days to make reservations, and gets no answer on the phone. Too early in the season to be open? Owner on vacation? Wrong number in guide book? Busy making up the rooms? Can anyone shed some light?

Why would someone starting a thru be making reservations at a place in central PA?

p.s. you'll likely not get an answer on the phone unless you call during their "bar hours" on the main page of their site.
they're definitely open, a bunch of us were there a couple of weeks ago.

Unless he's in a big "pack" of thrus in his general vicinity I don't think he'll need to make a reservation this early. The place has a decent amount of rooms and I'm sure he could split the cost of one with somebody else if it absolutely came down to it.

Best burger, fries and beer on the trail. Wonderful folks at the Doyle.

Ah memories....flood waters on the street, Trail Angel Mary, trying to eat Baltimore Jacks spicy cooking,BEER, then margaritas, then lots more BEER.......................rides to Port Clinton then hikingback to avoid the flooded closed roads..........BEER
yes, yes..the memories of the Doyle!! lotsa consumption that morning...er, i mean day...lotsa wonderful food prepared by TrailAngel Mary...more drinking at the Doyle and then a drunken hike to the shelter after a ride up outta town!!! what great memories!!
I wouldn't bother with reservations either. Just go. There will always be room. If not see "Trail Angle Mary" just down the street. She's also in the membership listing.
Also there are several motels in the area if you have transportation.

First of all,as I "remember it" we all got drunk downstairs and rented a room when we could not walk no more! 2nd of all they have not made the rooms up it the last 80 years!

They make the rooms up everyday. Pat and Vicki have replaced mattresses, windows and all else they could afford to so us stinky hikers have a place to a clean place to stay. You must have visited under previous ownership.
