No way!!! Up here in Maine there's still quite a bit of snow. The mountains just got a few more inches of snow yesterday. It will at least be another month until I will have to mow the lawn. (Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing)

I mowed Grass Thursday, but I would not say spring is over by any means. We had a low here this morning of 39*F. Supposed to be 74*F tomorrow. So I would say we are right in the thick of Spring!!

We won't mow yet - too many flowers have sprung up on our lawn out of nowhere - narcissus and grape hyacinths. Also bluebells. But soon.

Yep, mowed last week. Spent the morning today sharpening my mower blades.

My yard has more "wildflowers" than it does grass! LOL

Mostly invasive exotics, though. Dandelion, henbit, and the like.

Still a bit of snow around here. Did see some folks out pushing mowers, not sure what they thought they were doing, the grass isn't growing yet. Maybe picking up last year's leaves. We got our first snow before Thanksgiving, haven't been snow-free since. Caught a few people off-guard, didn't get all the leaves up.

Lawn? Haven't see it since November. Still at least 6 to 8 inches on the floor here. Probably won't have to mow until mid-May.

Still snow and ice in the woods of midcoast Maine, but my lawn has finally succumbed to spring -- i.e. no snow, except the remains of the piles left by the winter plow. Grass has finally got a few springs of green, but yellows and browns are the dominant colors.

The redwing black birds have arrived from where ever they go in winter. Yesterday I shot 50 or so digital photos of a great blue heron on the edge of the stream that divides my two acres from an acre owned by our town land trust.

It's convinced me again of the value of my Panasonic lumix DMC FZ7 camera with its 12x optical telephoto and 4 digital. The heron was 250 feet away, but it was beautifully sharp in my 8X10 photos.

I shot hand held from an open window. Panasonic's image stabilizer is truly remarkable. I was ready to give up photography before I bought the camera, my hands had begun to shake so.

Sorry, I can't post a picture. I've never learned how. Does anyone have some simple directions.

Find your picture (on a server) Right click it. Highlight the properties. Cick on the Yellow icon with a mountain in it. Paste the URL in there. Click OK.

Simple! :D

Well, as you can see, I finally was able to post a thumbnail of the heron, though in an effort to get it down to size, I cut out too much of the photo. The final version is only about 10 percent of the size allowed, 59, rather than the 588 maximum. I'll continue to experiment, maybe.

But I just clicked on the paper clip above the message and followed directions to attach a saved photo file. Though I kept getting messages saying the attachment was too large, 1.38, rather than the 588 whatever that is allowed.

Weary. Put the photo on another server. (one of those free photo album type of servers) Then do it like I posted above.

You will not be uploading to the WB server so you will avoid the size restrictions.

I recognize that is another possibility. But many of my photos are designed for use in one or another of the three newsletters I put out. I'm constantly opening them to review them, crop them, or to enhance them for use in a newsletter. Just as I've never attached a photo before on White Blaze, I've never experimented with an on line server. Do they maintain maximum quality? The print house I use likes maximum possible quality in the prints I give them. Whenever I get a bad printing job, they blame the quality of my prints.

As you probably have guessed, I learn just enough about computers to do what I need to do.

Well, to keep this thread dealing with spring. My wife and I today planted 120 tomato seeds in an indoor flat. My rule is to plant seeds indoors by April 15 at the latest, for transplanting outdoors by June 1 -- the last date for likely frost where I live.

I always put a few seeds in earlier and later in case spring weather brings unexpected cold or warmth.

In my experience there has been strange sound that is not a lawn mower sound, but a malfunctioning chain saw sound. Years ago I finally figured out that it was a horny ruffed grouse looking for a mate. They beat their wings on the ground hoping to attract a female within a mile or so.

It was a major puzzle to thru hikers in 1993 until I finally told them it was just a bird looking for a piece of as......
