I'm currently planning a week long hike in North Georgia (southbound from Dick's Creek Gap to Amicalola) at the end of April. Can anybody tell me a little bit about the water sources in this section?

We have done most of this section before but with the Georgia drought so much in the news lately I'm concerned about water at shelters.

Should someone find this thread later looking for information, be advised Georgia Appalachian Trail Club (GATC) is now providing this information on its website.

Why not Bly Gap?.... then you got the whole Georgia section of the AT finished.

Just finished Bly to springer. 5 days. (last week) If anything there was too much water. All it did was rain til we hit neels gap. There is water at every shelter. The longest we went without seeing water was a couple miles.

Sue - we've had plenty of rain the past few months in north Georgia. Water availability should not be a problem.

My wife and I hiked Woody Gap to Unicoi in early March and didn't have any problems at all. It has rained a lot since then. Perhaps it goes without saying - make plans to carry a couple of liters for those occasional stretches where water sources are more spread out.

I hiked Springer to Neels Gap last week and there was plenty of water.

Just finished Georgia section a few days ago. Water was just fine and it's been raining recently. You'll have no problems.

I'm in Hiawassee. The water is fine all the way. I'm more worried about getting a good beer in town tonight.
