At 1/2g per foot, that is a little less than 6 tonnes of string. No thanks.

Something to look forward to...getting 'clothes lined" on a hike.
"Yaaaak." I grab my neck.
"What IS that?"
"Don Norton's string. He must be ahead. "
"Hmm...looks handy for a bear bag line, dental floss, pack repari, clothes line."
He is kidding....right?

Mr. norton shoud agree to meet prospective nimrod at all trail crossings to tie new string ball and meet same moron at Katahdin to roll string up when train wre. . . errr project is complete.
This should have been posted in the humor forum - as there is no muffin head forum.

:confused:This has to be some kind of a stupid joke. Let's see. Proposing threading trees with string...not good for the tree, wild life or fellow hikers (especially those that hike at night). Um, road crossing, etc? Yeah, joke.

I met a guy (nice person) in Hawaii whose given name was Nimrod. I couldn't help snickering like an adolescent every time I heard it.

you're all missing the most important question...

how do you intend to get it across the kennebec? i hear threading it early in the morning is the safest....

additionally, don norton, if you're expecting to put cans on each end of the string and be able to talk to hikers at the other terminus, its not going to work..... :)

I have not thought about but that sounds like a great idea and if we use Budweiser cans we might be in a Bud Commercial. Or even the first to communicate from Maine to Georgia by string. It might even be better to use red and white string instead of solid red. If we can get the string strung we could use Clydesdale horses on each end talking or what ever they do. I am sure that would be a first:-?

No the shuttle (canoe) is running just have to find tall tree on other side to tie it to because in case of flood the string needs to be high:banana:banana

String cheese or silly string. Perhaps "Christo" would be interested.

I figure a thin string would weigh about a ton and a quarter, or a bit more than a long ton. It might be a wrapped about a foot diameter tube, say four feet long - and then it'll be about five feet in diameter, more or less.
