Thanks to a lot of great info and suggestions from various posters we've decided that 3 days on the Black Forest Trail is the way to go. Does anybody know how to find a good shuttle service in the area if we only plan on doing 20-30 miles of the trail? Any other tips or specifics anyone has to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my earlier posts, you've taken a lot of the guess work out of the planning that would have otherwise stumped a novice like myself.

Although the BFT loop is just over 40 miles it nearly doubles back on itself a few times and there are interconnecting trails. Not sure what info you've already seen but here are a couple of shortening circuits: http://www.midatlantichikes.com/bfts.htm and http://www.midatlantichikes.com/id194.html

Shuttles? You could try contacting one of the first three folks on this list: http://www.hike-mst.org/shuttle.html or just use the interconnecting trails or forest roads.

Did you talk to Chuck Dillon at Pine Creek Outfitters in Ansonia yet? Otherwise, the BFT is one of the easiest trails to do a loop on and combine it with existing runs, narrow gauge railways or other XC ski trails and have almost zero road walk. Once you look at the maps and all the other trails that intersect, especially right by Trout Run Road and Rte 44, Just S of Village of BF, you will see what I mean.:)
