A fellow by the name of Timothy Rexford Wilson is running for President. He thru-hiked the AT in 1997, and the PCT in 2002.

Amazing, isn't it, that he can decide to do that without having to get a license or governmental approval of any kind. A hiker in the White House -- was Teddy Roosevelt the last one? Where did I read: "Many are called, but few are chosen?" Still, what a great experience for him!

Yes you can decide to run for president without a corporate license, but you cannot actually become the president without one.

Not sure of any other hiking politicians, but I know Gore summitted Mt. Ranier with his son, and Robert Kennedy was the first up Mt Kennedy in Canada.

BTW does any of this have anything to do with actually hiking?
