And does it behave like cotton in its drying properties? Or is it more akin to quick drying synthetics? Anything else I should know, like does it get real stinky easily, etc... Thanks!

Though Modal is a type of rayon it is more like cotton than rayon in absorbency. It does not dry as quickly as most synthetics, but it does dry faster than cotton. Not sure about the stinkiness as I don't use modal garments for hiking.

I've found Modal dries very slowly, pretty much equivalent to similar weight cotton in my experience. It does not absorb smell as easily as polyester, but more similar to cotton in that aspect.

I definitely would not recommend it for hiking. In fact, I avoid buying it at all now. I find it pills after a few wearings.

And to think I always that that "modal fabric"
was the stuff from which music is woven.:D

It is made from cellulose from trees, so it is renewable unlike polyester which is a petroleum product.
