I'm hittin the trail in June for the first time and I really could use some good maps. I find them for sale here and there but it would be nice to use the internet I already paid for! If ya know what I mean. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help a hiker out here!

I've been using the ATC maps for years, I don't know of any that are better.

so you get them free at the ATC website? Or did you buy the handbook? Thanks

I bought both the handbooks and the maps. I don't know of any free ATC maps.

That might be ok if I didn't have to pay $30 to be a member. They won't even sell the book to ya if your not a member. Surely there is somewhere reasonable to get the same info.

Amazon.com Marketplace is a great place for used books and maps .

That simply is not true. ATC will sell to non-members, however non-members do not receive a discount.

Depending on the size of your order, it may be cheaper to become a member to qualify for the discounted prices.

I stand corrected Roland and thanks! I somehow ended up at the member sign up, geesh! These guides and maps look very helpful, sure are pricy though.

You dont really need maps... just buy a guide book.

the book I bought was under 20$ and it covers the entire trail, atc maps are like $6 each or something and they only cover a small section.

nothing wrong with being a member. i have recieved discounts at places in the past for being a member, including my favorite outfitter who routinely gives me big discounts. and being a member, gives back to the trail.thats a good thing. good luck with your search.

Buying the official maps gives back to the trail too. (Just mentioning this in case you didn't know where they came from.)

Use Terra Server to print TOPO maps.

Maps by the Bundle--Whole Trail
Member Price: $165.45

All Appalachian Trail map sets. The only book included is for the Trail in Maine.

Thought I paid $180 when I got them earlier this year with the member discount. Must have come down again. I'd take $125 for the set and the book. Have looked thru (opened) some of them but they are clean with no writing. They have not left the house. Should be like new.
